THE ECOFEST: A HISTORY OF GIVING BACK

Founded in 2004, the Ecofest was created to expand the Fairfax Festival’s offerings for locals seeking a greater focus on sustainability and community engagement. Initially, we provided a dedicated space in the Pavilion featuring eco-friendly and socially conscious vendors offering educational resources and environmental initiatives. The Ecofest quickly grew to include its own Music Stage and the addition of the Friday Night Movie... a family-friendly kickoff to the festival weekend.

To accommodate its growing popularity, the Ecofest expanded to the Ball Field, creating an interactive space where younger festival-goers can enjoy fun and engaging activities. Over the years, Ecofest has also become known for pioneering the first Organic Wine Tasting event in the area, a collaboration with Good Earth Natural Foods that attracted wine enthusiasts from near and far.

More recently, we’ve partnered with HenHouse Brewing and introduced no-waste souvenir cups, a festival favorite that embodies our commitment to sustainability. Year after year, Ecofest remains a core part of the Fairfax Festival, bringing together local residents, environmental advocates, and community partners to celebrate our Town together.

The Ecofest is deeply committed to giving back to the community, putting all earnings directly back into the festival and local projects. We fully underwrite and produce the Ecofest Music Stage and the Movie Night, ensuring free, high-quality entertainment for attendees. Over the years, we’ve contributed to major community projects, including but certainly not limited to:

  • Rebuilt the Ball Field bathrooms
  • Reconstructed the Green Stage in the redwoods
  • Provided a grant to the Fairfax San Anselmo Children's Center
  • Donated toward the Coast Miwok's buy-back of their ancestral land in Nicasio
  • Our most long-standing and impactful cause is the Fairfax Food Bank, which we have funded and operated since its inception in 2011. This essential program provides groceries to over 300 families every week, reinforcing Ecofest’s dedication to supporting local residents and fostering a strong, connected community.

The Fairfax Festival features incredible FREE live music from rock to blues, folk, and more. There's music from noon to 6pm Saturday and Sunday on all three stages. The fun goes on after the Festival closes at our many local music venues.

Stay tuned for information about the lineups for this year's Fairfax Festival!
